Organizer Tom Robben has announced the official dates for the 2026 Summer Bird Count across Connecticut, with all count areas now confirmed.
Modeled after the well-known Christmas Bird Count, the Summer Bird Count invites birders to help document bird populations by counting all individual birds within a designated area. Unlike winter counts, summer birding often relies more on identifying birds by song and call, as dense foliage can make visual sightings more challenging.
Most count areas conduct their surveys over two days rather than a single day, allowing for more flexibility and more complete coverage.
Results from the counts will be published in the Connecticut Ornithological Association’s journal, The Connecticut Warbler.

Participation is open to anyone with an interest in birds. If you would like to join a count, please contact the compiler for your local area for details and assignments.
