DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, May 17\, 2026\n2:00pm – 4:00pm \nHammonasset State Park\nMadison\, CT \nHammonasset has a great mix of habitats for birding\, which attracts a diversity of species. We’ll search for migrating songbirds and coastal birds at one of the best spots in the state. Walk will be approximately 1-1.5 miles on level grassy\, dirt\, and sandy terrain. SUMMARY:Litchfield Hills Audubon: Birding at Hammonasset
DESCRIPTION:Birding at Hammonasset Beach State Park\nApril 21\, 2026\nTuesday\, 8:30 a.m.\n\n \n\n\n\n\nOur walk will begin with a check of Margery’s Bird Pond\, where the wood frogs should be out and about (and very noisy!).Next\, we’ll head to the Monarch Meadow to await “the dance of the woodcock.” Year after year\, the woodcocks (sometimes as many as seven or eight) have performed their mating ritual overhead and are easily viewed from this vantage point.Also\, close by\, we’re likely to hear our resident Barred Owls hooting back and forth.If there’s enough interest\, we can walk through the nearby conifers with the hope of seeing them.Sanctuary managers Rich and Debbie Martin will guide you on this walk. Bring a flashlight. Wear boots\, as trails are soggy in spring. Dress warmly. No dogs allowed! Meet at the Boyd Woods Sanctuary parking lot on Route 254 in Litchfield. Birding duration about 3 hours. SUMMARY:Audubon Shop: Spring Migration Series of Bird Walks (4/18 through 6/13)
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a small group Spring Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset\, one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nHammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison is widely regarded as one of the premier birding spots in CT\, and springtime migration is a lot of fun. Approximately 240 species of birds occur there annually\, as the park boasts diverse habitats such as marsh\, open water\, woodland\, grassland and shoreline. Tropical migrants in their bright breeding finery will be seen as they return north to nesting grounds. We’ll be searching with eyes and ears for shorebirds\, ducks\, birds of prey\, and vibrant songbirds. This is a good chance to learn bird song. \nOur weekend Spring Bird Walks run Saturdays April 18 through June 13\, 2026. Always a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of spring. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air! No need to pre-register. Our number one priority is to keep everyone safe.
