SUMMARY:Audubon CT Greenwich: Feeder Watch Fridays
DESCRIPTION:The winter months are the perfect time to become acquainted with our resident songbirds. Come join us for this recurring program on Friday afternoons where Audubon Naturalist Ryan MacLean will point out the species of birds coming to our Learning Center’s bird feeder station and provide tips on both identifying and feeding them. \nWe’ll also share how to participate in Project FeederWatch—a winter-long community science survey of the birds that visit feeders in your backyards\, parks\, offices\, and other areas. You and your family can participate by counting the birds you see in your backyard and submitting them to the Project FeederWatch website. We will provide identification guides to backyard birds and information on how you can take part in Project FeederWatch and even submit a checklist of our own at the end of the program! \nAll ages are welcome including children after school and senior citizens. SUMMARY:Audubon CT Greenwich: Nest Box Building Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Greenwich Audubon Center for a fun in-person program to learn about ways to support birds at home with nest boxes! Tree-cavity nesting birds such as Eastern Bluebirds depend on nestboxes to survive\, as it has become increasingly difficult for them to find natural tree cavities in the wild. Other birds that love nestboxes include Tree Swallows\, Chickadees\, Tufted Titmice\, and House Wrens. \nAfter a slide-show presentation\, you will have the opportunity to build your very own nest box kit with the assistance of Audubon staff! Kits must be purchased with ticket registration in advance and will be given out at the program. Hammers & Screwdrivers will be available for use but we recommend bringing your own Hammer & Philip’s Head Screwdriver if you have them. \nThis IN-PERSON program has a limited capacity and will start with an indoor slide show. Weather permitting the box building portion will be held outside. \nTICKETS ALONG WITH KITS MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE through our online ticket sales page. SUMMARY:Audubon CT Greenwich: Pollinator Potluck: From the Cloud Forest to CT: Protecting Nature Across the Hemisphere
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening adventure to the Southern Hemisphere with local conservationist\, Jim Muchmore. Jim will be joined by Audubon Connecticut Director of Policy\, Robert LaFrance who will present on Audubon’s Latin America and Caribbean program. \nJim will provide highlights from his field research in Ecuador and other parts of South America\, where he has studied the region’s remarkable bird and herpetofauna and their conservation challenges in tropical ecosystems. Drawing on decades of experience observing rare birds\, reptiles\, and amphibians in diverse habitats from Andean cloud forests to Choco lowlands\, he will provide insights into both the natural history of these animals and ongoing efforts to protect their habitats. \nJim will be joined by Audubon Connecticut Director of Policy\, Robert LaFrance who will present on Audubon’s Latin America and Caribbean program in addition to discussing revisions to the Connecticut Wildlife Action Plan. \nJim’s Bio: \nJim Muchmore is an established graphic and packaging designer who transitioned from the New York City design world into a conservation-focused career. He brings deep expertise in branding\, corporate communications\, and visual storytelling\, combined with extensive field experience in South America. Jim has worked closely with scientists\, NGOs\, and local partners to raise awareness\, support fundraising\, and protect critical biodiversity hotspot\, particularly within the Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena and Tropical Andes regions\, and is also an experienced photographer\, expedition organizer\, and conservation communicator. \nRobert’s Bio: \nRobert LaFrance is the Director of Policy for Connecticut at the National Audubon Society\, where he works to advance state policies that protect birds\, habitats\, and natural resources. A former Director of Governmental Affairs and Senior Legal Counsel at Connecticut DEEP\, Robert has played a key role in shaping environmental and wildlife policy under multiple administrations. He remains deeply engaged in conservation science and education\, advising students at the Yale School of the Environment and serving on regional and state conservation boards. A longtime Connecticut resident and avid bird watcher\, Robert brings a practical\, policy-driven perspective on how conservation decisions affect local landscapes and communities. \nPotluck food and hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Happiness Is Back Country Market along with organic wine from The Study Fine Wines! DESCRIPTION:The winter months are a magical time to possibly hear or see the resident owl species of Connecticut. Join Greenwich Audubon naturalist Ryan MacLean in partnership with the Greenwich Botanical Center in the Montgomery Pinetum for a special evening program to learn about and search for our nocturnal avian predators. The program will start with an indoor slide show in the Greenwich Botanical Center Main Building where you will learn about owl life history\, the species that call our region home both year-round and during the winter as well as how you can help protect owls in your neighborhood habitats. \nFollowing this indoor portion\, we will quietly venture outside to listen and look for owls on the grounds of Montgomery Pinetum. While hearing or seeing owls is far from guaranteed\, Ryan will guide the group on how to safely look and listen for these birds in areas of appropriate habitat. \nThis program also coincides with Cornell’s Great Backyard Bird Count and you will learn how to submit checklists of birds you see\, including owls to this weekend-long global bird survey! \nProgram Fees: $20 Suggested Donation for GBC/Audubon Non-Members | Free for GBC/Audubon Members \nThere is a strict capacity limit of 20 people so please register in advance. \nGreenwich Botanical Center is located in the Montgomery Pinetum at 130 Bible St\, Cos Cob CT approximately 20 minutes from the Greenwich Audubon Center.

This global event empowers people everywhere to observe\, count\, and share information about birds—all from backyards\, parks\, and neighborhoods. \nDuring this program\, Ryan will introduce you to some of the most common winter birds in our area and explain how you can participate in this year’s count over the weekend. \nWhat to Expect\n\nLearn how to identify common backyard birds\nDiscover how easy it is to bird watch locally\nReceive a color chart of common backyard birds\nGet help setting up a free eBird account to track bird sightings locally and around the world\n\nTo wrap up the program\, Ryan will lead a brief outdoor bird walk at Mill Pond\, located just across the street from the library\, where participants can practice their new skills. \nWhat to Bring:\nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars and dress warmly for cold weather. \nThe Great Backyard Bird Count for 2026 will take place from February 13–16.

SUMMARY:Audubon CT Greenwich: Feeder Watch Fridays
DESCRIPTION:The winter months are the perfect time to become acquainted with our resident songbirds. Come join us for this recurring program on Friday afternoons where Audubon Naturalist Ryan MacLean will point out the species of birds coming to our Learning Center’s bird feeder station and provide tips on both identifying and feeding them. \nWe’ll also share how to participate in Project FeederWatch—a winter-long community science survey of the birds that visit feeders in your backyards\, parks\, offices\, and other areas. You and your family can participate by counting the birds you see in your backyard and submitting them to the Project FeederWatch website. We will provide identification guides to backyard birds and information on how you can take part in Project FeederWatch and even submit a checklist of our own at the end of the program! \nAll ages are welcome including children after school and senior citizens. Our building is ADA accessible so wheelchairs and mobility devices can be used. \nThis IN-PERSON program has a limited capacity and will be held indoors. \nRegistration is FREE but tickets MUST be purchased in advance through this online ticket sales page. \nPlease register for the quantity of ALL members in your party. DESCRIPTION:Join Audubon Naturalists as we count waterbirds and land birds in Greenwich Harbor as part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s annual Great Backyard Bird Count. Ducks\, geese\, loons\, and gulls are some of the birds that we expect to see as they spend the winter on Long Island Sound. You will also get to help submit our findings to the bird count website and learn how you can submit your backyard counts too! \nThis IN-PERSON program has a limited capacity of 30 participants and will be held entirely outdoors. \nRestrooms will not be available so please plan accordingly. \nTickets MUST be purchased in advance through our online ticket sales page. There will be no ticket sales at the door the day of the program. Please be prepared to show proof of your ticket registration\, either as a printed copy of your registration receipt or your registration confirmation email on your phone. \n– Program is free of charge but suggested donations are encouraged to support Audubon’s bird conservation efforts.
