Your support of the Coastal Center is a gift to the region’s wildlife and protected spaces\, and we want to celebrate our successes with you. \nThe Coastal Center staff strive to promote the awareness and preservation of Long Island Sound’s ecosystem\, and the birds and habitats it supports. Visitors have access to the Sound and to tidal salt marshes\, barrier beaches\, tide pools\, and coastal dunes\, making it one of the most significant birding locations in Connecticut. As a part of statewide initiatives\, the Coastal Center also participates in the conservation of several protected species\, especially Osprey\, Purple Martins\, and Piping Plovers. Fundraising events like this make our work possible.

DESCRIPTION:Woodcock Walks:\n \nTuesday\, March 24\, 2026\n6:30pm – 8:30pm\n \nFriday\, March 27\, 2026\n6:30pm – 8:30pm\n \n\nJoin us for an evening hike to find the elusive American Woodcock! This bird puts on a dazzling display during the breeding season and we are going to set off to try and see it in action. We’ll start with a discussion about their life cycle\, then as the sun sets we’ll keep our eyes and ears out for the start of the show. Bring binoculars\, a flashlight\, and shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy (we’ll have a limited supply of binoculars to borrow). If the woodcocks prove stubborn\, we’ll continue the hike to look for all manner of night life\, from owls to Spring Peepers. \nWe will meet at Eisenhower Park in Milford.
