SUMMARY:The Audubon Shop: Fall Migration Bird Walk @ Hammonasset
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a Fall Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison. Migrating hawks\, eagles\, owls\, shorebirds\, waterbirds\, and songbirds can all be seen at one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nBirds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds towards the shore\, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey (hawks\, falcons and eagles) can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors\, and Jerry will help you identify these sometimes confusing differences. Shorebirds\, which have started their southerly migration after finishing nesting in August\, can often be seen in the various wet areas. \nImprove your ear as we listen for birds before we see them. Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air on one of our Fall Migration Bird Walks at Hammonasset! \n\nWalks at Hammonasset will be held each Saturday Sept. 12 through Nov. 21\, 2026\nParticipants will meet Jerry at The Audubon Shop parking lot at 7:50 am\, carpool to the park at 8 and return at about 10:30.\n$6.00 cash charge per person – pay when you arrive\, please.\nBeginners are welcome.\nNo need to pre-register.\nEach guided walk takes place from 8-10:30 am.\nBinoculars are necessary and may be rented for $4\, please call to rent.\nTelescopes and cameras are welcome.\nDress for the weather. SUMMARY:Norwalk River Watershed: Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk Wednesday\, September 30\, 9AM at Andrews Field\n \n\n Join Jo and Adam Fasciolo\, expert birders and NRWA Board member (Adam)\, for a guided walk explore the site\, identify the birds we find\, and document our observations to help capture Norwalk’s flora and fauna. Here are the birds Jo and Adam have seen recently at Andrews Field. The walk  is open to folks of all ages and experience levels. ​​Andrew’s Field is located behind the parking lot at 250 Westport Ave\, with access from County Street. Please wear comfortable\, weather-appropriate clothing for walking outdoors. Bring binoculars if you have them! We will also hear about the City’s plans to restore this unique habitat beginning in 2027. The Andrew’s Field Restoration Project aims to restore native habitat\, manage invasive species\, and create new opportunities for wildlife and passive recreation. \n\nQuestions: email outreachcoordinator@norwalkriver.org.

The Coastal Center is a hub for wildlife all times of the year\, so we’ll take you to some of our favorite sites around the sanctuary’s salt marsh\, woodlands\, and sandbar to look for a variety of birds. Beginner birders are welcome. The Coastal Center has a limited supply of binoculars to loan out if needed. \nThis will be a casual walk for 2-3 hours\, depending on the weather and birding conditions. The walk is fairly flat\, but will take place on loose sand with little shade. Please bring good walking shoes\, binoculars\, and water. Dress appropriately for the weather\, as it tends to be windy at the coast. There are bathrooms on site at the Coastal Center. \nThis walk is subject to cancellation in the event of bad weather.
