Migrating hawks\, eagles\, owls\, shorebirds\, waterbirds\, and songbirds can all be seen at one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nBirds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds towards the shore\, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey (hawks\, falcons and eagles) can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors\, and Jerry will help you identify these sometimes confusing differences. Shorebirds\, which have started their southerly migration after finishing nesting in August\, can often be seen in the various wet areas. \nImprove your ear as we listen for birds before we see them. Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. DESCRIPTION:Join Audubon naturalists for a morning bird tour at the Greenwich Audubon Center! The center’s open fields\, apple orchard\, wetlands\, and woodlands provide great habitat for migrating birds such as warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, thrushes\, orioles and more. We will also stop at our Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch in hopes of seeing migrating hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and vultures overhead. Binoculars will be available for those who don’t have them. Meet in the Audubon Center in Greenwich parking Lot. \nThe program is FREE but participants must register in advance through our online ticket sales page with additional contributions optional. Please select the date from the registration page of the program you wish to attend. There will be no ticket sales at the door the day of the program. Please be prepared to show proof of your ticket registration\, either as a printed copy of your registration receipt or your registration confirmation email on your phone. \nProgram Fee: Admission is FREE but donations are encouraged. DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a Fall Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison. Migrating hawks\, eagles\, owls\, shorebirds\, waterbirds\, and songbirds can all be seen at one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nBirds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds towards the shore\, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey (hawks\, falcons and eagles) can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors\, and Jerry will help you identify these sometimes confusing differences. Shorebirds\, which have started their southerly migration after finishing nesting in August\, can often be seen in the various wet areas. \nImprove your ear as we listen for birds before we see them. Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. DESCRIPTION:Hawk ID presented by Steve Mayo \nHawk Identification in the field at Lighthouse Point.  Steve will have cards and ID handouts.   \nLive – held in conjunction with Fall Migration Festival at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven.  \nThis free event is always a treat\, with migrating raptors likely passing overhead. Steve combines strong visuals with insightful commentary that is both educational and often humorous\, making this a great opportunity to sharpen your hawk identification skills while enjoying the spectacle of fall migration. \nFree. \n++ \nBecause Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven closed in August due to extensive storm damage\, we will be updating this event to be sure it can take place as planned. \nCheck back later for any additional news.  \n
