SUMMARY:POSTPONED to 10/3 Hartford Audubon: Station 43 Beginner’s Bird Walk #1
DESCRIPTION:Station 43 Beginners Bird Walk #1\n\n\n953 Main St\, South Windsor — Corner of Newberry Rd and Main St\nPark along road near intersection. \nThe first of four morning walks designed for beginners at Hartford Audubon’s oldest sanctuary. Station 43 is an excellent birding area year-round and on each walk we will look for seasonal birds. The walk is roughly 2.5 miles (3 hours) long over flat terrain but we may encounter muddy areas and water covering parts of the path. Bring spotting scope if you have one. \nHigh\, water-proof boots and insect repellent are suggested. \nJon Ward – jward88787@aol.com – 860-416-3958T

SUMMARY:CT Audubon\, Birdcraft: Bird Banding Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Bird Banding demonstration:\n\n\nBirdcraft Museum \n314 Unquowa Road\nFairfield\, CT 06824\n(203) 259-0416 ext. 305\nmwilson@ctaudubon.org\n$10 per person\nRegistration required \n\n\n\nCome see community science in action! Since the 1970s\, Birdcraft has operated as a federally licensed bird banding station where volunteers\, licensed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service\, have captured and documented more than 18\,000 birds. The process enables researchers to track and study individual birds\, and collect valuable data on migration patterns\, behavior\, lifespan\, and reproductive success–all crucial information for understanding bird populations and guiding conservation efforts. \nAt this demonstration\, Master Bird Bander Judy Richardson and her team will offer a fascinating\, up-close view. Watch as birds are gently captured in the Birdcraft Sanctuary\, their measurements are recorded\, and they are fitted with an identification band before being released back into the wild\, unharmed. You’ll learn about the history of bird banding\, see how banders identify birds\, take a tour of our sanctuary and see some birds up close! Participants may get to release a bird too! \n\n \nTo register: Bird Banding Demonstration | Sep 26\, 9:00am – 10:00am | Birdcraft | The Connecticut Audubon Society

SUMMARY:Cancelled due to inclement weather -Hartford Audubon: Fall Migration at Rosedale Farms Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Fall Migration at Rosedale Farms\n\n\n25 East Weatogue Street\, Simsbury — Park at the farm stand parking lot and walk down\, or park further in the grassy area on the left of the dirt road. Meet at the kiosk at the end of the dirt road. \nRosedale Farms and Vineyards is a historic family farm that is not only known for its locally grown fresh produce and wine but also offers a variety of habitats that makes it a great birding location during Fall migration. A combination of agricultural land and fields\, woodlands\, two ponds\, a stream and frontage on the Farmington River bring in a nice variety of migrating sparrows\, warblers\, songbirds and raptors. The walk will last approximately 2 hours\, and the terrain is easy and flat. We are hoping to find some late warblers\, up to seven sparrow species and other migrating birds. Come and join us and see how many birds we can find! \nGillian Smits – gillian.smits@gmail.com – 860-930-4198 T \n \n

SUMMARY:Greenwich Audubon: Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch
DESCRIPTION:Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch at Greenwich Audubon Center is a premier location in Connecticut for observing migrating raptors and a wide variety of songbirds. The watch runs daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Stop by anytime.  \nSince 1971\, migrating hawks have been counted by volunteers as they pass over Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch. In 1985\, the Audubon Society of Greenwich hired a full-time watcher for the site. Now\, the Greenwich Audubon Center hires a paid hawk watcher for the site every year. \nThe significant number of migrating raptors that are observed here each year is one of the key reasons why the Greenwich Audubon Center Main Sanctuary is designated an Important Bird Area.

SUMMARY:The Audubon Shop: Fall Migration Bird Walk @ Hammonasset
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a Fall Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison. Migrating hawks\, eagles\, owls\, shorebirds\, waterbirds\, and songbirds can all be seen at one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nBirds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds towards the shore\, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey (hawks\, falcons and eagles) can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors\, and Jerry will help you identify these sometimes confusing differences. Shorebirds\, which have started their southerly migration after finishing nesting in August\, can often be seen in the various wet areas. \nImprove your ear as we listen for birds before we see them. Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air on one of our Fall Migration Bird Walks at Hammonasset! \n\nWalks at Hammonasset will be held each Saturday Sept. 12 through Nov. 21\, 2026\nParticipants will meet Jerry at The Audubon Shop parking lot at 7:50 am\, carpool to the park at 8 and return at about 10:30.\n$6.00 cash charge per person – pay when you arrive\, please.\nBeginners are welcome.\nNo need to pre-register.\nEach guided walk takes place from 8-10:30 am.\nBinoculars are necessary and may be rented for $4\, please call to rent.\nTelescopes and cameras are welcome.\nDress for the weather. Pouring rain will cancel.\nCall the shop on any Friday to double check weather\, if needed. 203-245-9056 \n\n
