SUMMARY:Greenwich Audubon: Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch
DESCRIPTION:Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch at Greenwich Audubon Center is a premier location in Connecticut for observing migrating raptors and a wide variety of songbirds. The watch runs daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Stop by anytime.  \nSince 1971\, migrating hawks have been counted by volunteers as they pass over Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch. In 1985\, the Audubon Society of Greenwich hired a full-time watcher for the site. Now\, the Greenwich Audubon Center hires a paid hawk watcher for the site every year. \nThe significant number of migrating raptors that are observed here each year is one of the key reasons why the Greenwich Audubon Center Main Sanctuary is designated an Important Bird Area.

SUMMARY:The Audubon Shop: Fall Migration Bird Walk @ Hammonasset
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a Fall Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison. Migrating hawks\, eagles\, owls\, shorebirds\, waterbirds\, and songbirds can all be seen at one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nBirds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds towards the shore\, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey (hawks\, falcons and eagles) can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors\, and Jerry will help you identify these sometimes confusing differences. Shorebirds\, which have started their southerly migration after finishing nesting in August\, can often be seen in the various wet areas. \nImprove your ear as we listen for birds before we see them. Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air on one of our Fall Migration Bird Walks at Hammonasset! \n\nWalks at Hammonasset will be held each Saturday Sept. 12 through Nov. 21\, 2026\nParticipants will meet Jerry at The Audubon Shop parking lot at 7:50 am\, carpool to the park at 8 and return at about 10:30.\n$6.00 cash charge per person – pay when you arrive\, please.\nBeginners are welcome.\nNo need to pre-register.\nEach guided walk takes place from 8-10:30 am.\nBinoculars are necessary and may be rented for $4\, please call to rent.\nTelescopes and cameras are welcome.\nDress for the weather. DESCRIPTION:Invasive Plant Symposium\, Wednesday\, October 28\, 2026\, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM\, UConn Student Union\, Storrs\, CT \nThe Connecticut Invasive Plant Working Group (CIPWG) 2026 symposium will be a full day in-person program on October 28\, with some sessions directed to all attendees and other sessions in concurrent breakouts.
