SUMMARY:Audubon Shop: Spring Migration Series of Bird Walks (4/18 through 6/13)
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a small group Spring Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset\, one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nHammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison is widely regarded as one of the premier birding spots in CT\, and springtime migration is a lot of fun. Approximately 240 species of birds occur there annually\, as the park boasts diverse habitats such as marsh\, open water\, woodland\, grassland and shoreline. Tropical migrants in their bright breeding finery will be seen as they return north to nesting grounds. We’ll be searching with eyes and ears for shorebirds\, ducks\, birds of prey\, and vibrant songbirds. This is a good chance to learn bird song. \nOur weekend Spring Bird Walks run Saturdays April 18 through June 13\, 2026. Always a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of spring. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air! No need to pre-register. Our number one priority is to keep everyone safe. SUMMARY:New Haven Bird Club: Field Trip - Geology and Birds\, Branford
DESCRIPTION:Field Trip – Geology and Birds\, Branford – Cheryl Cape and Dan May \n\nApril 18 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm\n\n\n\nRain date: Sunday\, April 19\, 2026 \nJoin a field trip that explores natural resources and birds in two rock areas in rural Branford and suburban New Haven. The trip starts at the Kelley Memorial Preserve in Branford\, which surrounds the active Stony Creek quarry. Stony Creek granite is a building stone mined here since the late 19th century. We hike a moderately strenuous loop of 1.5 miles\, observing the geological features and the birds in woodland and riparian settings. An optional (and shorter) second part of the trip\, after a rest stop on I-95\, will be at Quarry Park Preserve in Fair Haven Heights. This small\, wooded preserve in sandstone bedrock was quarried from the 1700s to the early 1900s. \nMeet at the Kelley Memorial Preserve parking lot\, 103-127 Quarry Road\, Branford. \nLeaders: Cheryl Cape and Dan May\, 203-343-4490 or capect13@gmail.com \n \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Litchfield Hills Audubon Annual Woodcock Walk - Boyd Woods Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Annual Woodcock Walk at Boyd Woods Sanctuary\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nApril 18\, 2026\nSaturday\, 7:00 p.m.\n\n \n\n\n\n\nOur walk will begin with a check of Margery’s Bird Pond\, where the wood frogs should be out and about (and very noisy!).Next\, we’ll head to the Monarch Meadow to await “the dance of the woodcock.” Year after year\, the woodcocks (sometimes as many as seven or eight) have performed their mating ritual overhead and are easily viewed from this vantage point. \n \nAlso\, close by\, we’re likely to hear our resident Barred Owls hooting back and forth. If there’s enough interest\, we can walk through the nearby conifers with the hope of seeing them.\n \nSanctuary managers Rich and Debbie Martin will guide you on this walk. Bring a flashlight. Wear boots\, as trails are soggy in spring. Dress warmly. No dogs allowed!\n \nMeet at the Boyd Woods Sanctuary parking lot on Route 254 in Litchfield.\n \n\nFor additional information\, contact Debbie Martin at barnowl524@hotmail.com or 860-819-7462
