Exposure to wind\, sun\, and cold is possible depending on the weather. No restrooms on site.  \nMembers: $13\nNon-members: $18 \nRegister here: Coastal Bird Walk – The Connecticut Audubon Society

SUMMARY:CT Audubon\, Coastal Center at Milford Point: Spring Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 11\, 2026\n10:00am – 1:00pm\nCoastal Center at Milford Point\n \n1 Milford Point Road\nMilford\, CT 06460\n203-878-7440\nmilford@ctaudubon.org\n\nMembers $15\nNon-members $20\n\n\n\n\nJoin local birding expert Frank Mantlik for a spring bird walk! The Coastal Center is a hub for wildlife all times of the year\, so we’ll take you to some of our favorite sites around the sanctuary’s salt marsh\, woodlands\, and sandbar to look for a variety of birds. Beginner birders are welcome. The Coastal Center has a limited supply of binoculars to loan out if needed. \nBe sure to check the coastal forecast: we recommend bringing an extra layer\, as it tends to get windy at the coast. This walk will last 2-3 hours\, so you’ll want to bring good walking shoes\, a reusable water bottle\, and binoculars. \nThis walk is subject to cancellation in the event of bad weather. If a walk is cancelled\, you will be offered to transfer your registration to a rescheduled date or receive a refund. \n\n \nRegister here:  Coastal Bird Walk | Apr 11\, 10:00am – 1:00pm | Milford Point | The Connecticut Audubon Society

SUMMARY:CT Audubon\, RTP Estuary Center: Shorebird Sit
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 11\, 2026\n1:00pm – 3:00pm \nGreat Island Boat Launch\nOld Lyme\, CT \nMost of North America’s shorebird species winter in South & Central America\, heading north to breed in the high Arctic\, while others spend the winter here in Connecticut. Early spring is when many of these species start their long-distance migrations\, making it a great time of year to head to the coast. Join us as we look for many of our shorebird species at some of the best spots around southeastern Connecticut and learn how you can help these charismatic birds. A bird sit involves little to no walking\, instead focusing on a single location and letting the birds come to you. Exposure to wind\, sun\, and cold is possible depending on the weather. No restrooms on site. \nMembers: $13\nNon-Members: $18 \nRegister here: Shorebird Sit – The Connecticut Audubon Society

SUMMARY:Jim Hunter – Celebration of his Life @ Lighthouse Point
DESCRIPTION:Jim Hunter – Celebration of his Life – Saturday\, April 11 \nSome of you knew Jim Hunter and his wife Courtney\, who moved to Woodbury recently and joined the WCBC. Jim had been a serious birder since forever and quickly became a contributing member\, attending meetings and reporting unusual sightings\, including activity at or near their house for the Christmas and June Bird Counts. \nSadly\, Jim Hunter passed away recently – there is to be a celebration of his life on Saturday\, April 11\, 2026\, at 6:00 PM at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven. Frank Gallo writes: Together\, we’ll take a walk\, share stories\, and honor a truly brilliant biologist\, naturalist\, birder\, and friend. Jim touched so many lives through his knowledge\, curiosity\, and deep love of the natural world\, and it feels only right to gather outside\, where he felt most at home. Please come as you are and bring memories and a story to share. Please note that the park closes at dusk and there is plenty of parking. \n Frank Gallo also wrote this about Jim: It is with great sadness that I announce the untimely loss of my dear friend Jim Hunter. Jim and I were both students of Noble Proctor’s at Southern Connecticut State University. Jim was a consummate naturalist and spent countless hours in the field studying birds\, mushrooms\, plants\, and most everything else\, and we had our share of adventures together. \nNew Haven Bird Club members will remember Jim first as a student accompanying Noble on Christmas Bird Counts (CBCs) at Lake Saltonstall. After Noble’s death\, Jim took-up the reins of captain and ran that area for years. Others may know Jim as a board member of COA\, from his time working at the Fairfield Wild Birds Unlimited\, or while he was a science teacher at Wilton High School. Many others will know him through his work at Earth Place in Westport where he and Grit Ardwin took students on birding/natural history adventures around the country. \nFew get the chance\, as Jim did\, to touch and positively influence the lives of so many. I’m heartened to know that he made this world a little brighter with his presence\, and that his legacy and memory will live on in others… \nHe will be sorely missed.
