SUMMARY:Greenwich Audubon: Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch
DESCRIPTION:Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch at Greenwich Audubon Center is a premier location in Connecticut for observing migrating raptors and a wide variety of songbirds. The watch runs daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Stop by anytime.  \nSince 1971\, migrating hawks have been counted by volunteers as they pass over Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch. In 1985\, the Audubon Society of Greenwich hired a full-time watcher for the site. Now\, the Greenwich Audubon Center hires a paid hawk watcher for the site every year. \nThe significant number of migrating raptors that are observed here each year is one of the key reasons why the Greenwich Audubon Center Main Sanctuary is designated an Important Bird Area.

SUMMARY:The Audubon Shop: Fall Migration Bird Walk @ Hammonasset
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a Fall Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison. Migrating hawks\, eagles\, owls\, shorebirds\, waterbirds\, and songbirds can all be seen at one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nBirds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds towards the shore\, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey (hawks\, falcons and eagles) can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors\, and Jerry will help you identify these sometimes confusing differences. Shorebirds\, which have started their southerly migration after finishing nesting in August\, can often be seen in the various wet areas. \nImprove your ear as we listen for birds before we see them. Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air on one of our Fall Migration Bird Walks at Hammonasset! \n\nWalks at Hammonasset will be held each Saturday Sept. 12 through Nov. 21\, 2026\nParticipants will meet Jerry at The Audubon Shop parking lot at 7:50 am\, carpool to the park at 8 and return at about 10:30.\n$6.00 cash charge per person – pay when you arrive\, please.\nBeginners are welcome.\nNo need to pre-register.\nEach guided walk takes place from 8-10:30 am.\nBinoculars are necessary and may be rented for $4\, please call to rent.\nTelescopes and cameras are welcome.\nDress for the weather. Pouring rain will cancel.\nCall the shop on any Friday to double check weather\, if needed. 203-245-9056 \n\n

SUMMARY:New Haven Bird Club: Meeting - Twitching (Birding) at the Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Indoor Meeting – Twitching (Birding) at the Yale Center for British Art – Mark Aronson \n\nThursday\, October 8\, 2026 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm\n\n\n\nThe history of birds\, formal studies of ornithology and birdwatching owe much to the efforts of British natural historians\, scientists and collectors.  In the 17th and 18th centuries artists helped systematically cataloguing and depicting both British and world birds. By the 19th century artists tried to depict all the species they came across during their world travels.  Mark Aronson\, the senior conservator of paintings at the Yale Center for British Art\, has spent some of his time birding the paintings in the collection and he will show some of the 75+ birds seen on the walls of the YCBA.  A visit to this free museum serves as a perfect way to get your twitch on during a rainy day. \nHeld at the:  Whitney Center – Cultural Arts Center\, Hamden

Community science\, ranging from backyard bird counts to large-scale coordinated surveys/schemes\, provides information on species distribution\, abundance trends\, migration timing\, and breeding success. This data is important for identifying conservation priorities and informing effective conservation action plans and strategies. By engaging individuals and communities in monitoring efforts\, we not only gather scientific data but also build a deeper connection to nature\, raise awareness about the challenges migratory birds face\, and inspire direct conservation action.\n\nEnjoy fun\, free\, family-friendly activities at Lighthouse Point Park\n\n\n\nHawk Watch\,  8 AM – 3 PM\n\n\n\nEducational Activities\, 8:30 AM – 3 PM\n\n\n\nKids’ Activities\, 8:30 AM – 3 PM\n\n\n\nLighthouse Tours\, 9 AM – 1 PM\n\n\n\nGuided Bird Walks\, 8 AM – 9 AM\, 9 AM- 10 AM & 11 AM – 11:30 AM (for kids and new birders)\n\n\n\nHawk ID Workshop\, 10 AM – 11 AM\n\n\n\nCommunity Science Blitz\, 11 AM – 1 PM\n\n\n\nLive Raptor Show\, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM\n\n\n\nPlus Retail\, Food\, and Beverage Vendors!\n\n\n\nPartners: Menunkatuck Audubon Society\, Audubon Connecticut/New York\, Lights Out Connecticut\, New Haven Bird Club\, Stewart B McKinney National Wildlife Refuge\, Community Placemaking Engagement Network\, Blue Moon Raptors\n\nRegister for updates.
