DESCRIPTION:Field Trip – Hammonasset Beach State Park\, Madison – Corrie Folsom O’Keefe\n\nSaturday\, November 7\, 2026 @ 8:00 am – 11:00 am\n\n\n\nJoin Corrie Folsom-O’Keefe\, Director of Bird Conservation for the CT Office of the National Audubon Society\, for a walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park\, one of CT’s most productive birding destinations at all seasons of the year. We’ll look for shorebirds\, waterfowl\, raptors\, late migrants\, and other over-wintering birds. The park’s varied habitats include over 400 acres of salt marsh\, which have eroded substantially in recent years\, reducing the amount of habitat available for beach nesting (Piping Plover\, Least Tern) and salt marsh birds (Saltmarsh Sparrow\, Seaside Sparrow\, Willet\, Clapper Rail). Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. DESCRIPTION:Bring binoculars and join us for a casual walk around Greenwich Point Park\, Old Greenwich\, CT\, in search of wild birds in diverse habitats.  Held year-round on the first Sunday of every month at Greenwich Point Park\, the walk begins at 9:00 am near the southern concession stand near the flagpole on the main beach. The walk lasts from 2 – 3 hours\, but participants can leave at any time. All ages and levels of expertise are welcome. \nNo registration is required and the walk is free. DESCRIPTION:Field Trip – Country Club of Woodbridge Property\, Woodbridge – Chris Loscalzo\n\nSaturday\, October 17\, 2026 @ 8:00 am – 11:00 am\n\n\n\nJoin Chris Loscalzo for a walk on this former golf course (now a valued open space as the fairways have transformed into weedy and brushy fields) as he looks for sparrows and other late fall migrants. The walk will be preceded on Friday\, October 16th by a presentation on sparrow identification via Zoom when Chris will review the ID of all 27 species of sparrow that have been seen in CT; see notice under Indoor Meetings. \nAdvance registration will be requested\, but additional walks will be arranged if interest in the walk exceeds available spaces. SUMMARY:The Audubon Shop: Fall Migration Bird Walk @ Hammonasset
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and Co. for a Fall Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison. Migrating hawks\, eagles\, owls\, shorebirds\, waterbirds\, and songbirds can all be seen at one of Connecticut’s premier birding “hot spots”. \nBirds migrating south are sometimes pushed by westerly winds towards the shore\, so they hug the coastline. Birds of prey (hawks\, falcons and eagles) can often be spotted soaring overhead or hunting along their routes. Several songbirds exchange bright spring feathers for more drab non-breeding colors\, and Jerry will help you identify these sometimes confusing differences. Shorebirds\, which have started their southerly migration after finishing nesting in August\, can often be seen in the various wet areas. \nImprove your ear as we listen for birds before we see them. Get to know which birds are likely streaming through and why. Learn about habitats in this exceptional state park. \nAlways a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of fall. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air on one of our Fall Migration Bird Walks at Hammonasset! \n\nWalks at Hammonasset will be held each Saturday Sept. 12 through Nov. 21\, 2026\nParticipants will meet Jerry at The Audubon Shop parking lot at 7:50 am\, carpool to the park at 8 and return at about 10:30.\n$6.00 cash charge per person – pay when you arrive\, please.\nBeginners are welcome.\nNo need to pre-register.\nEach guided walk takes place from 8-10:30 am.\nBinoculars are necessary and may be rented for $4\, please call to rent.\nTelescopes and cameras are welcome.\nDress for the weather. SUMMARY:Greenwich Audubon: Fall Migration Bird Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Audubon naturalists for a morning bird tour at the Greenwich Audubon Center! The center’s open fields\, apple orchard\, wetlands\, and woodlands provide great habitat for migrating birds such as warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, thrushes\, orioles and more. We will also stop at our Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch in hopes of seeing migrating hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and vultures overhead. Binoculars will be available for those who don’t have them. Meet in the Audubon Center in Greenwich parking Lot. \nThe program is FREE but participants must register in advance through our online ticket sales page with additional contributions optional. Please select the date from the registration page of the program you wish to attend. There will be no ticket sales at the door the day of the program. Please be prepared to show proof of your ticket registration\, either as a printed copy of your registration receipt or your registration confirmation email on your phone. \nProgram Fee: Admission is FREE but donations are encouraged. Your contributions help support our conservation work\, including advocating for the protection of birds and the habitats they depend on for survival. \nRSVP is Required \nRecommended for ages 6 and up. \nPlease register for the quantity of ALL members in your party. Check back later. \nLighthouse Point Park is a premier location in southern New England for observing migrating raptors and a wide variety of songbirds. The watch starts daily at 7 a.m. and continues as long as the hawks keep flying. Stop by anytime. We meet by the tall lone tree on top of the hill.
