The Coastal Center is a hub for wildlife all times of the year\, so we’ll take you to some of our favorite sites around the sanctuary’s salt marsh\, woodlands\, and sandbar to look for a variety of birds. Beginner birders are welcome. The Coastal Center has a limited supply of binoculars to loan out if needed. \nThis will be a casual walk for 2-3 hours\, depending on the weather and birding conditions. The walk is fairly flat\, but will take place on loose sand with little shade. Please bring good walking shoes\, binoculars\, and water. Dress appropriately for the weather\, as it tends to be windy at the coast. There are bathrooms on site at the Coastal Center. \nThis walk is subject to cancellation in the event of bad weather. SUMMARY:Audubon Shop: Spring Migration Walks
DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and co. for a small group Spring Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset\, on of Connecticut’s premier birding “hotspots”. \nHammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison is widely regarded as one of the premier birding spots in CT and springtime migration is a lot of fun. Approximately 250 species of birds occur there annually\, as the park boast diverse habitats such as marsh\, open water\, woodland\, grassland\, and shoreline areas. Tropical migrants in their bright breeding finery will be seen as they return north to nesting grounds. We’ll be searching with eyes and ears for shorebirds\, ducks\, birds of prey\, and vibrant songbirds. This is a good chance to learn bird song. \nOur weekend Spring Bird Walks run Saturday April 18 through June 13\, 2026. Always a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of spring. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air! No need to pre-register. Our number one priority is to keep every safe. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 23rd – 10am-12pm\n\n\nIf you’ve ever seen a kestrel\, you know they’re diminutive raptors that pack a punch! If you haven’t seen one before\, this is a program you won’t want to miss. Sharon Audubon Center staff will be introducing you to its role in the region’s Kestrel Nest Box Program to increase local kestrel populations in our area before taking you outdoors to visit a nest box on the Sharon Land Trust’s Twin Oaks property. Participants will learn about Kestrel natural history\, conservation status and opportunities\, and hopefully get to see them in the wild at the nest-box site!\n \nThis program will begin at the Sharon Audubon Center and end at the Twin Oaks property. DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and co. for a small group Spring Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset\, on of Connecticut’s premier birding “hotspots”. \nHammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison is widely regarded as one of the premier birding spots in CT and springtime migration is a lot of fun. Approximately 250 species of birds occur there annually\, as the park boast diverse habitats such as marsh\, open water\, woodland\, grassland\, and shoreline areas. Tropical migrants in their bright breeding finery will be seen as they return north to nesting grounds. We’ll be searching with eyes and ears for shorebirds\, ducks\, birds of prey\, and vibrant songbirds. This is a good chance to learn bird song. \nOur weekend Spring Bird Walks run Saturday April 18 through June 13\, 2026. Always a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of spring. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air! No need to pre-register. Our number one priority is to keep every safe. DESCRIPTION:Join Jerry and co. for a small group Spring Migration Bird Walk at Hammonasset\, on of Connecticut’s premier birding “hotspots”. \nHammonasset Beach State Park here in Madison is widely regarded as one of the premier birding spots in CT and springtime migration is a lot of fun. Approximately 250 species of birds occur there annually\, as the park boast diverse habitats such as marsh\, open water\, woodland\, grassland\, and shoreline areas. Tropical migrants in their bright breeding finery will be seen as they return north to nesting grounds. We’ll be searching with eyes and ears for shorebirds\, ducks\, birds of prey\, and vibrant songbirds. This is a good chance to learn bird song. \nOur weekend Spring Bird Walks run Saturday April 18 through June 13\, 2026. Always a surprise and always entertaining\, birding on the shore of CT is one of the highlights of spring. Get outdoors and enjoy a Saturday morning in the fresh air! No need to pre-register. Our number one priority is to keep every safe. Mainly forested land along the CT River. The focus of the hike will be observing\, listening\, and noticing birds and nature in a relaxed\, enjoyable manner. This hike is more about connecting with nature\, appreciating bird songs- behavior rather than just identification.\n \nI will invite you to participate in a 10-15 minute sensory awareness meditation (SAM) at the start. DESCRIPTION:Count the Bobolinks and More! \nJoin Birding for Pleasure in Durham & Middlefield for a bird walk at Frederick White Farm.  \nFree – Saturday May 30\, 2026 at 8:30 AM – about 11 AM  \nMeet at Frederick White Farm open space.  Park on side of dirt road down the hill.  Address:  70 Maple Ave\, Durham\, CT. \nFrederick White Farm is an important habitat for the Bobolink\, a migratory songbird who travels all the way from South America to nest in the grasses at this town-owned farm. \nElena Coffey is a Birding for Pleasure volunteer and specializes with birding-by-sound. She is on the executive board of Mattabeseck Audubon Society\, a member of the New Haven Bird Club and the Connecticut Ornithological Society. When she was in her twenties\, Elena saw a tree full of colorful migrating warblers and she was hooked on birding! Elena will help build your birding skills by recognizing bird sounds while learning about the musical Bobolinks. \nRun completely by volunteers\, Birding for Pleasure’s goal is to engage communities in conversation\, restoration and enjoyment of grasslands focusing on birds\, wildlife and their habitats.  \n* Please bring your binoculars\, drinking water\, bug repellent and wear waterproof shoes or boots.
