The best way to see it is from a boat on the river\, where you’ll be surrounded by swallows flying over the water. \nEach participant must provide their own kayak or canoe and PFD. DESCRIPTION:Bring binoculars and join us for a casual walk around Greenwich Point Park\, Old Greenwich\, CT\, in search of wild birds in diverse habitats.  Held year-round on the first Sunday of every month at Greenwich Point Park\, the walk begins at 9:00 am near the southern concession stand near the flagpole on the main beach. The walk lasts from 2 – 3 hours\, but participants can leave at any time. Today\, a variety of effective rodent control methods are available\, with prevention serving as the most important and successful first line of defense.\n \nThe use of anticoagulant rodenticides\, particularly second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs)\, unintentionally poisons native wildlife when predators consume contaminated rodents. Species such as hawks\, owls\, eagles\, bobcats\, fishers\, foxes\, and other predators are especially vulnerable to these secondary effects. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques offer safer\, effective alternatives that reduce rodent populations without the use of poisons\, helping protect wildlife and pets.\nJoin Raptor Rehabilitator Mary-Beth Kaeser\, owner of Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education Center https://www.horizonwings.org/and her live avian ambassadors to learn more about what you can do to protect your home from rodents while protecting the other wildlife sharing your yard. Mary-Beth reports that close to 80% of the birds she rehabilitates have some level of rodenticide poisoning! DESCRIPTION:Join Audubon naturalists for a morning bird tour at the Greenwich Audubon Center! The center’s open fields\, apple orchard\, wetlands\, and woodlands provide great habitat for migrating birds such as warblers\, vireos\, tanagers\, thrushes\, orioles and more. We will also stop at our Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch in hopes of seeing migrating hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and vultures overhead. Binoculars will be available for those who don’t have them. Meet in the Audubon Center in Greenwich parking Lot. \nThe program is FREE but participants must register in advance through our online ticket sales page with additional contributions optional. Please select the date from the registration page of the program you wish to attend. There will be no ticket sales at the door the day of the program. Please be prepared to show proof of your ticket registration\, either as a printed copy of your registration receipt or your registration confirmation email on your phone. \nProgram Fee: Admission is FREE but donations are encouraged. DESCRIPTION:Join the Bruce Museum and Greenwich Audubon for a tour of the neighboring Oneida Sanctuary. Tours will meet at the Visitor Services Desk in the museum lobby and walk from the Bruce Park Playground to Audubon’s neighboring Oneida Sanctuary. The Oneida Sanctuary is located in one of Greenwich’s only remaining coastal salt marshes. The walk covers unpaved and uneven ground and is approximately one mile from start to finish. Oneida Sanctuary not only provides an opportunity to see bird species that use this special habitat such as waterfowl\, shorebirds\, herons & egrets\, but also to learn about Audubon’s conservation efforts to improve our coastal resiliency in Greenwich. \nPlease RSVP as space is limited. Following a slide show introduction where you will learn of the importance of hawk watches and how to distinguish the different shapes of hawks in flight\, we’ll use binoculars to look for migrating raptors from Hawk Watch Lawn.\n \nThe Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch will be staffed by official hawk counters every day (weather dependent) from August 25th through November 30th 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. SUMMARY:CT Audubon Milford Point: Coastal Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Bird Walk\n \n\nJoin local birding expert Frank Mantlik for a bird walk! The Coastal Center is a hub for wildlife all times of the year\, so we’ll take you to some of our favorite sites around the sanctuary’s salt marsh\, woodlands\, and sandbar to look for a variety of birds. Beginner birders are welcome. The Coastal Center has a limited supply of binoculars to loan out if needed. \nThis will be a casual walk for 2-3 hours\, depending on the weather and birding conditions. The walk is fairly flat\, but will take place on loose sand with little shade. Please bring good walking shoes\, binoculars\, and water. Dress appropriately for the weather\, as it tends to be windy at the coast. There are bathrooms on site at the Coastal Center. \nThis walk is subject to cancellation in the event of bad weather.
