Title:  White-throated Manakins in French Guiana by Cody Limber
Who:  Cody Limber will be talking about his research on White-throated Manakins in French Guiana on a recent trip to study the display of this fascinating bird. Cody is a PhD candidate in Richard Prum’s laboratory at Yale University.  His work primarily focuses on how cells work together to make feathers and how feathers get their patterns and colors.  As an avid ornithologist, he has also worked on avian vision, collective behavior, and manakin display.  Cody’s bird interests extend well beyond the laboratory – he is also an avid birder and photographer, keen on learning more about the natural world.
Description:  White-throated Manakins may not look like the most spectacular birds, but their dance is something to behold.  In this presentation, Cody will be talking about his recent trip to French Guiana to study the display of this rarely encountered species.  He will also show some of the other incredible species found in this part of the world and talk about the trials and tribulations of field work in the tropics.  He’ll also present the first-ever slow motion video footage of the White-throated Manakin displaying, and talk a little bit about the science that they are doing with this footage.
Free and open to the public.
