Audubon CT Sharon: Spring Migration Bird Tour

Join Sharon Audubon Center Naturalist, Bethany Sheffer, George Wallace of the American Bird Conservancy, and Sharon Audubon Center volunteer Emma Sisk on a guided bird tour around Miles Wildlife Sanctuary where you’ll learn how to use binoculars (if you haven’t used them before), which features on birds to begin observing, and how to protect the birds you love. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience! There’s nothing quite like the magic of spring migration, so this is an experience you won’t want to miss! We’re very likely to see several species of warbler, swallow (including purple martins!), waterfowl, and more amongst the 150+ bird species have been documented at this incredible sanctuary.A resident of Lakeville and a Hotchkiss student, Emma has been an avid birder since the age of 10. She has entire shelves devoted to birding guides and memoirs. She has cherished her time as a volunteer at the Sharon Audubon Center for the past four years, caring for the display animals, creating educational displays, and helping out with events. She has also led a couple of talks and birding walks for families at Scoville Memorial Library. When she is not wandering the fields and forests listening to birdsong, she finds another home on the stage singing and acting.

Accessibility

  • Public parking located in a gravel parking space.
  • Terrain is varied throughout the property. Some parts and flat and grassy, while others include gravel (dirt road overlooking primary wetland complex), occasional roots and uneven terrain (forest), and wet, soggy areas on the loop trail along the far side of the pond.
  • No public restrooms available.
