Audubon CT Sharon: Enjoying, Counting, and Helping Birds a Christmas Count Primer

Despite the colder temps, winter is wonderful season to begin learning birds in. Feeders bring in year-round residents like chickadees and titmice, while also attracting northern-breeding sparrows and finches that are a delight to observe! But not only is it fun to observe birds this time of year, but to count them for science, too. Community science programs like the Christmas Bird Count and Project Feederwatch mobilize everyday people to identify and count birds so that scientists have a better understanding of their distribution and population sizes. This helps focus conservation efforts for species in decline. Join us for an introduction to both community science programs and some casual identification practice indoors and outdoors (weather permitting).

•    Fee: $15/adult
•    Suitable for ages 18+
•    Online pre-registration required.

Accessibility
•    Public parking located fewer than 50 yards from the nature center facility.
•    Wheelchair and powerchair ramp, access, and restroom located near the rear entrance of the nature center facility.

•    Terrain is flat and grassy near the center and the director’s house. There is a restroom inside the facility.
•    Public restrooms are available on-site.
