Bird of the Month

Connecticut Ornithological Association began a Bird-Of-The-Month project in December 2021 that will continue through 2022 and possibly beyond.

Each month a small committee will compile a summary list of the most uncommon or noteworthy birds seen in Connecticut that month, as noted on the CTBirds listserv and especially on eBird, and will select the Bird of the Month. In some months, a RARE bird (e.g., Slaty-backed Gull) AND a typical REGULAR bird (e.g., Barn Swallow) will be selected as the birds-of-the-month. The list will be added below with the date and location first found and and linked on the Month/Year to details posted in the News section of this website.  

Plus, we will also indicate the state YEAR LIST running total of the number of bird species reported in Connecticut for the whole year, to date, by all observers reporting to eBird. You can see this eBird State Year List at: https://ebird.org/region/US-CT?yr=cur&m=&rank=lrec . Occasionally we will also add some commentary on any significant bird or environmental changes that month. 

Please continue to post reports about your rare and other noteworthy birds on BOTH eBird AND on COA’s CTBirds listserv, as soon as practical  (e.g., send your posts in to this email address   ctbirds@lists.ctbirding.org — please subscribe to it if needed).
