Simply visit your local community garden hotspot as often as you wish during October and see how many species you can find. Record your observations in eBird, making sure to use the appropriate hotspot so your sightings can be included in the tally. At the end of each week, COA’s CT Birds listserv moderator, Chuck Imbergamo, will post updated species totals to the listserv.
A list of community garden hotspots from last year is available on the events page . If your hotspot containing a community garden is not on the list, please contact Chuck ASAP so it can be added in eBird.
Participation has grown each year, and we hope even more birders will explore these wonderful community spaces, enjoy autumn migration, and discover some great birds throughout October!
Fine print: You must use eBird and the hotspot to record your birds. The birds can be seen anywhere within the confines of your hotspot and do NOT need to be seen in the gardens themselves. Birds must be accepted by our eBird reviewers to count. Follow all local rules, regulations and the ABA code of ethics, as always. The challenge is open to all, but is limited to community gardens within Connecticut.
